Description
Description
Sugar kelp (Saccharina latissima) is a brown algae that grows worldwide in clear, cold waters. Our organically grown sugar kelp is gently dried, ensuring that its valuable nutrients are preserved as effectively as possible.
Our sugar kelp naturally contains the flavour enhancer glutamate, making it particularly suitable as a universal seasoning or a delicious side dish in salads, soups, and pasta dishes. With its savoury-sweet flavour, this sea vegetable is a true asset to any diet.
Iodine and Recommended Consumption:
Average iodine content: 4589 mg/kg of dried algae / 54 mg/kg of rehydrated algae.
Approx. 30 mg of dried algae and approx. 2.8 g of rehydrated algae (according to instructions*) correspond to 100% of the reference intake for daily iodine supply of 150 µg (EU Nutrient Reference Value).
Iodine contributes to normal energy metabolism. Sea algae are naturally rich in iodine.
Excessive iodine intake can lead to thyroid dysfunction.
Therefore, it is recommended to rehydrate sea algae before consumption to reduce the iodine content.
1 The iodine content may vary depending on the batch.
*Hydration: Soak the algae in water for 15-30 minutes, change the water and soak again for 5 minutes, then rinse.
