Description
Description
Sea spaghetti (Himanthalia elongata) is an edible, marine brown algae that is mainly eaten in Ireland and France like spaghetti or tagliatelle.
Generally, the algae are either processed fresh or dried. The name "sea spaghetti" becomes immediately clear when you see them washed up on the coast or on a plate: the algae are long and thin, but not round in shape, but somewhat flattened.
Our sea spaghetti comes from certified organic farming and is gently dried, ensuring that the valuable nutrients are preserved as much as possible. The pleasantly mild taste, the typical shape, and the consistency make our sea spaghetti a popular and versatile algae.
Notes:
- This is a natural product, the composition of which is subject to natural fluctuations.
- During drying, white deposits may form on the sea algae. This is natural, algae-specific salt. This is not a quality defect.
- Hand-harvested. Despite careful processing, natural materials of marine origin may be present.
- May contain traces of tree nuts, mollusks, crustaceans, and marine fish.
Iodine and consumption recommendation:
Average iodine content: 78.6 mg/kg1
Approx. 2 g of dried sea spaghetti and approx. 9 g of rehydrated algae (according to instructions*) correspond to 100% of the reference intake for daily iodine intake of 150 μg (EU nutrient reference value).
Iodine contributes to normal energy metabolism. Sea algae are naturally rich in iodine.
Excessive iodine intake can lead to thyroid dysfunction. Therefore, it is recommended to rehydrate the sea algae before consumption to reduce the iodine content.
1 The iodine content may vary depending on the batch.
*Hydration: Let the algae soak in water for approx. 30 minutes. Change the water and soak again for 5 minutes, then rinse. The sea spaghetti increases its volume by 4 times.
