Cocoa is one of the most significant treasures of our time. For the Mayans and Aztecs, cocoa beans were already considered a true precious commodity and even served as currency. Cocoa beans grow on shrub-like cocoa trees (Theobroma cacao L.), which can reach up to 15 meters in height and thrive today in many tropical regions of the world. Inside their pod-like fruits are several rows of seeds, which are the actual cocoa beans.
Our cocoa comes from Peru, a country of origin known for its particularly high cocoa quality. Peruvian cocoa is considered one of the finest varieties in the world. It contains fewer bitter substances and acids, making it impressive for its pleasantly mild, balanced taste.
The cocoa beans are only lightly fermented and then gently dried. This ensures that the valuable nutrients are preserved as much as possible.
