Calcareous Algae, Lithothamnium Powder (Raw)

The marine red algae, also known as Lithothamnium calcareum, is a unique seaweed with the ability to collect and bind naturally occurring minerals from seawater. This makes this algae an ideal source of bioavailable minerals and trace elements, and it is particularly rich in calcium and magnesium: a rare combination!
Due to its appearance, it was long mistaken for coral. However, it is not a sea coral, but an algae.

Our Lithothamnium sp. algae is sustainably cultivated in the Icelandic sea. The sea in Northwest Iceland offers ideal conditions for abundant growth of minerals in algae.
These algae grow at a depth of 8-10 meters and sink to the bottom after the growth phase. They are harvested by wildcrafting in a small town in Iceland (Bildudalur) and gently dried.

Afterward, the raw material is further processed in Ireland into a very fine white powder through careful grinding, which is extremely light and pleasant to use.
The algae powder is also safe and easy to use as a foodstuff. Our calcium algae is well suited for refining smoothies, juices, desserts, and pastries.

In calcium algae, calcium is present as carbonate. However, unlike conventional calcium, it has a porous, honeycomb-like structure. This results in greater bioavailability of this mineral.
Calcium and magnesium are needed for the maintenance of normal bones and teeth and contribute to normal muscle function. Calcium contributes to the normal function of digestive enzymes, and magnesium contributes to the maintenance of normal nervous system function.

2.5 g calcium algae corresponds to 17% of the recommended daily intake of iodine of max. 150 µg/day (EU-NRV).
