Make your own sea/Irish moss gel - easy and quick
To make your own sea moss or Irish moss gel, you only need dried Irish moss algae and water.
Here is a step-by-step guide:
- First, the dried Irish moss algae must be rinsed thoroughly to remove any salt residue. Then, soak the algae in cold water for at least 4 hours or overnight so they can rehydrate.
- After soaking, rinse the algae thoroughly again and then place them in a high-speed blender. Now add enough fresh water to cover the algae. Depending on the desired consistency, about 1 cup of algae to 2-3 cups of water is recommended.
- Blend the mixture for about 2-3 minutes until a fine, smooth gel is formed.
- The homemade Irish moss gel is then ready for immediate use. Stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, it typically lasts about 5 days and will become a little firmer.
Tip: For longer shelf life, you can freeze the gel in ice cube trays in portions. This way, the Irish moss gel can be easily used directly from the freezer for smoothies, desserts, or other recipes as needed.
This gel can be used in a variety of recipes as a nutrient source, thickener, or gelling agent, including smoothies, desserts, or sauces. Note that the taste of Irish moss gel is neutral and will not affect the flavor in most recipes.
Irish moss is also a true miracle worker in the cosmetic field and can be a boon for the body in both hair and face masks. Carrageenan rehydrates and moisturizes the skin, giving it a glow.
PS: Our Irish moss is wild-harvested, meaning it is harvested from the sea. We maintain continuous quality controls to ensure we only offer the best quality.
