The brown algae Wakame has been harvested and eaten for centuries off the coasts of China, Korea, and Japan, and is an important part of the daily diet. The savory, slightly ocean-flavored algae is an indispensable ingredient, especially in miso soups.

Iodine Content & Usage:

* Average iodine content: 173.9 mg/kg of dried algae / 34.2 mg/kg of rehydrated algae.
* The iodine content can vary per batch.
* Approx. 1 g (2 teaspoons) of dried algae and approx. 4 g of rehydrated algae (as per instructions*) correspond to 100% of the recommended daily intake of iodine of max. 150 µg/day (EU nutrient reference value). Sea algae are naturally rich in iodine. Excessive iodine intake can lead to thyroid dysfunction. Therefore, it is recommended to rehydrate sea algae before consumption to reduce the iodine content.
*Hydration: Soak the algae in water for 5 minutes, change the water, soak again for 5 minutes, then rinse.
